We continue marching in foot-deep swamp water toward the city of Igleston. Goulden notices that the party is being watched from a distance. This is conveyed to Morro, then Whipp. Whipp shouts out “show yourself strangers”. A halfling emerges and demands two gold per person to pass. Kiiv attempts to intimidate with his breath weapon and the halfling decides to cut the toll in half. Kiiv still doesn’t like that and initiates attack with his great axe. 9 other halflings surround us and we battle. We ultimately kill the entire party of halflings. We loot their bodies and gain 11gp, 14s, 16c, as well as scimitars, daggers, and leather armor.
The curse has negative effects on Kiiv — he decides to behead all halflings and separate the heads from the bodies hidden on either side of the road, making identification harder.
We approach an inn and ask for some food. The innkeeper asks if we encountered anything on our way over to which we lied and said we didn’t. Kestyn asks for unique food and we all get fish that we are mostly unfamiliar with.
We wake up and continue trekking toward the city. It is no longer raining. We walk for the day and reach the walls of the city as dusk approaches.
"Welcome to Iggleston" says a town watch as we approach. "We don’t get much of your kind here" (referring to tall people — minus Kiiv). "If you stick around for the next couple days, you'll get to celebrate the Festival of Feats and Feast with us.".
Kestyn inquires about weapons shops and inns. Francisco’s is the recommended cheap inn to stay at. We arrive at the inn and get our accommodations for the night.
We long rest and inspect the armor and scimitars that we looted. We identify that some of the scimitars were made by the weapons shop that was recommended to Kestyn. We choose to only sell the armor. Morro, Gulden, and Kiiv go to the shop to sell. Gulden talks to the armory owner, who is slightly skeptical about our story of buying them to resell. We get 45gp for the lot. We continue to long rest. We all choose activities to participate in during the festival:
We go to see Horatio about a boat. We knock on the door and a gnome answers. We hand over the letter from Matchull and he informs us that we can have the boat after the fishing competition during the festival.
The rest of the day goes by uneventfully.
We see more placards out in the city indicating that a serial killer is at large (beheaded bodies found). 5gp reward. Kiiv is fasting throughout the day. We decide to stay safe in the city.
Fairly early in the morning we hear loud horns blowing as everyone is summoned to the central square. The events have 6 participants -- five from rival guilds, and one visitor (us!).
